 | Oil seals (and
the shaft they are fitted to ) MUST be lubricated with Petroleum Jelly before
installation. Failure to do this will result in failure of the seal as the sealing lip
will be burnt on start-up.

 | Use the right
type of seal for the application. Not all seals of the same size are the same. As an
example, some are designed for left hand rotation and others for right hand rotation. Also
different materials are required for different applications.

 | A sleeve must be
fitted to a shaft before installation if the shaft contains a sharp edge, splines or a
keyway.
|
 | If the seal is
fitted to a housing plate and then assembled over the shaft, allow the seal to centralize
on the shaft before tightening the housing.

 | Damaged shafts
should be plunge ground and given a surface finish between 0.2 and 0.6um RA.

leak if....
